About Me
I have been practising Iyengar Yoga for 24 years and I have been teaching for 19 years. I gained my Introductory certificate in
1995
and am qualified to Intermediate level 3. I am currently training for my Senior certificate.
I am a regular visitor to the Ramamani Iyengar
Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India, where I am taught by Geeta
and Prashant Iyengar. My most recent visit was in 2007 where I had the privilege of spending 5 months training with the Iyengars. I am, at the time of writing, the only teacher from the UK who has been allowed this honour.
I have completed remedial courses with Stephanie Quirk and
will be taking more of these courses in 2009. Stephanie Quirk has worked extensively with the Iyengars for 15 years and is also based in Pune, India.
I have trained with Mira Mehta and I am currently assisting her in her remedial classes. As a child Mira Mehta studied Yoga under the expert guidance of B.K.S. Iyengar and has since gone on to become one of the foremost international Yoga teachers and experts in her own right.
I hold the ITEC Diploma in Anatomy, Physiology and Massage.
I practise Tui Na (Chinese medical massage) at the Acupuncture Centre, Roupell Street, SE1.
Remedial Yoga
I am also qualified to teach remedial Yoga for neck, back, shoulder, knee and other problems. See the remedial page for further information.
I have taught Yoga to people suffering from asthma at a hospital in Pune.
Pregnancy
I am qualified to teach women through their pregnancy and have a lot of experience in this field. I have
written articles in magazines on Yoga and pregnancy.
Groups
I teach many people who take part in individual and team professional sports. Yoga can greatly enhance sports performance,
both physically and mentally. Within my classes I teach many sports
people who gain numerous benefits from the practice of Yoga. Yoga
can also be practised for remedial purposes to help overcome sports injuries.
I taught Yoga to The Hip Hop Collective Dance Company, before they embarked on their recent tour of the UK.
I am trained to teach Yoga to people with special needs and have taught classes for them at various colleges in SE London.
